Its August 8th already
by
basil bottler
on Sat 08 Aug 2009 17:32 BST
Its August 8th already and still no sign of The Basil Bottler Show Episode 39, well just in case anyone is interested, I'm working on it right now, well I was, but I stopped to let you know that I'm working on it, was working on it and will be working on it.... O Bollocks. It will probably be out within the week. I am hoping to pop up to Edinburgh next weekend, so I better pull my finger out. Below is part of a blog by Richard Herring, someone who can actually write interesting and funny blogs, unlike me. I added this section because it says something that I entirely agree with in a better way than I ever could.
Love Basil.
This is why I love the Internet as a broadcast medium, because we
had plenty of time to discuss it all properly and in context without
having to pander to some fictional listener without an attention span.
But also it's not a big enough story to be covered in depth by a
national broadcaster, yet there will be enough comedy fans (even ones
who don't know who I am) who would be interested in hearing it. As TV
and radio get dumber and more averse to risks and at the mercy of focus
groups and pathetic images of their average viewer/listener, the
Internet is getting smarter (and a lot dumber too at times) and taking
chances and putting out the stuff that is interesting to the people who
are creating it, in the hope that amongst the 4 billion people on the
planet there might be a few thousand who want to tag along.
It's a wonderful and exciting freedom. Traditional broadcasters
should be quaking in their shoes and doing something to counter this.
But maybe they're already fucked. Why not go out with a bang though hey
and produce some stuff you can actually be proud of rather than all the
lowest common denominator shit you're peddling. At least then you can
go to your death bed with a kind of dignity. It doesn't matter about
viewing figures or audience share or column inches, do what is right.
If just one executive at the BBC said, "Look, I know this might seem
crazy, but let's not give Morden and Horden another great wadge of
money to make a second series of their frankly shite programme, let's
give it to Stewart Lee to make a second series of his Comedy Vehicle.
It's just obviously a million times better and something we can be
proud of, rather than ashamed and when we're old men and women, frail
and looking back at our lives at least we can say, "I did something
right and true and beautiful and prevented something ugly and
embarrassing. It's not much. But it's something." Oh an while we're at
it, let's give Richard Herring a show as well. He was always the
funnier one, as everyone knows."
All right, spoiled it at the end there and I don't know where
this strange digression came from. My brain is bewildered by the
rollercoaster of Edinburgh. I'm just saying it's nice to get involved with something that
is smart and funny and where the people involved are excited and
passionate about what they're doing, rather than looking dead behind
the eyes as they do their best to deliver jokes that are beneath them,
their rictus grins doing nothing but to betray their desire to be
anywhere but where they are now.
I'm doing it again. Knocking TV whilst at the same time clearly
still wanting to be on it. But that's OK, because that's the truth. I
do love it and would love to do something if it could be on the right
terms, but it seems increasingly likely that the Internet is the only
place where that is likely to happen. http://www.richardherring.com/warmingup

Episode 38
by
basil bottler
on Sun 12 Jul 2009 09:45 BST
I don't know why I have this blog, I never get round to writing anything, either I'm much too busy or I'm a fucking idiot.... you choose. Anyway, I didn't make it to Iain Lee's Live Shindiggery last Tuesday because of work and I was really pissed off as I was hoping to meet Iain and all the gang of nutters, either I'm much too busy or I'm a fucking idiot.... you choose. What may or may not be good news is that Episode 38 of The Basil Bottler Show is now available on itunes and elsewhere, if it's not very good, that'll be because either I'm much too busy or I'm a fucking idiot.... you choose.
Love Basil.

Episode 35
by
basil bottler
on Tue 07 Apr 2009 20:37 BST
Episode 35 of The Basil Bottler Show is out now. It's the April 2009 Easter Special.
It was a bit of a rush getting the show done because I have been very busy and on Good Friday I'm off for a weeks holiday in Cornwall, so sorry if it's a bit shit. I did a 5 min stand up in a comedy club recently and although I shit myself and not many people laughed, I may well do another in the not too distant future. I have been calling in to various radio shows again lately, but I expect it will only be a short while before I get bored with doing it again. The Basil Bottler Show - Episode 36 will hopefully be out in mid May.
Love Basil.
Does anyone read this bollocks?

Fucking Genius.
by
basil bottler
on Mon 16 Mar 2009 19:54 GMT
I have been working on my anti-comedy comedy podcast for quite a while and will soon be releasing episode 34. The Basil Bottler Show was reviewed on an American podcast review show called That Podcast Show and did not go down very well, they slagged it off. I am wondering if my attempts at anti-comedy comedy are just not funny, or is it genius of such magnitude that most human brains cannot comprehend it... Yeah, it's that... Genius, fuck em.
Love Basil.

Pointless?
by
basil bottler
on Sun 08 Feb 2009 09:42 GMT
Writing this blog seems a bit pointless really, a bit like talking to yourself, maybe It's the second sign of madness. I had no work at all last week because of the snow and also because no one wanted me, but fortunately I managed to win enough money at Kempton races to pay the bills. It's about time I started working on Episode 33 of The Basil Bottler Show, so today I will start writing the lyrics for a song that I've been thinking about, It will probably be called Jaws 3. I have joined Twitter but so far it seems like a complete waste of time, I suppose I might change my mind about it, but I doubt it. This week I received some nice comments from Watko and Gary on the excellent The Gary Show, which are mostly undeserved, although It does give encouragement and helps me to stop wondering if my podcasts are complete shit... parts of them are a bit smelly. Lastly, if any radio station bosses are reading this, please offer Iain Lee an afternoon show, lets say 3.30 - 6.30. He is far too good to be stuck with doing just Sunday night. So come on you fucking twats, pull your fingers out and smell the coffee??
That's it, Love Basil.

Episode 32
by
basil bottler
on Sat 24 Jan 2009 20:08 GMT
Today I released episode 32 of the basil bottler show, It was starting to drive me made so It's quite a relief that It's gone off to fend for Itself, although I don't fancy It's chances. I've had a very busy past few days, my podcast show was featured on the Chris Reardon Podcast Show on Play Radio UK on Wednesday and was greeted with favourable comments which left me thinking, fuck my old boots, an Emmy cant be far off. I have a lovely time this afternoon in the Cotswold's gambling at Cheltenham races and as soon as I have finished this griping and fascinating blog, I am off to see Iain Lee doing stand-up in my home town Bromley. I plan to sit quietly at the back because I wouldn't want the presence of a superstar like me putting him off. While enjoying the comedy, I plan to consume a variety of alcoholic beverages and with any luck I hope to finish the night by participating in some bedroom athletics with at least two beautiful, oiled up, bi-sexual Latino ladies, preferably three. Anyway, that's it, time to fuck off. Its all go.
Hope you enjoy episode 32, Love Basil.

What a year its been... a shit one, that's what.
Never mind, I am nothing if not an optimist (mostly nothing) so I'm expecting 2009 to be much better.
So right now I predict that by this time next year, I will have orbited the earth in my manure powered space rocket and The Basil Bottler Show will be No 1 in the itunes podcast comedy chart.
Happy New Year.

Emergency interim podcast
by
basil bottler
on Sun 26 Oct 2008 08:38 GMT
Today, under torturous circumstances of enormous proportions, I have somehow managed to put out an emergency interim basil bottler show podcast. I do not want to exaggerate, but the fact that I have done it is a fucking miracle. To recover from the effort, I intend to advertise for three blonde swedish women to gang-bang me.
The basil bottler show (emergency interim podcast) is available on itunes.
